The Jersey
Shore Yankees avenged Fall Tournament losses this past memorial
Day weekend. They did it in convincing fashion, by grounding the
host team Balltown Bombers with a 12-0 shellacking!
The Neil Hourahan-led Del-Val / Bombers squad had come
into the MSBL 38+ Memorial Day Baseball Bash riding a series of
three-straight tournament titles. The Yankees certainly
erased all that by combining timely hits against a backdrop of
Bomber miscues.
The
Yanks came fortified with Terry Pezzola and Ray Lloyd adding to
a line-up that was already tough.
Neil Hourahan was the brainchild of the tournament.
I've been to a lot of tournaments and getting eight teams of
such high caliber (I mean all eight of them!) combined with such
a fun baseball weekend was a truly remarkable achievement.
Balltown Bombers Climb to the Top
of the 45+ Baseball World with Fall Classic Championship.
Jupiter, Fla., November 9, 2010 --
Marlton native Neil Hourahan led a team of some of the area's
top 45+ men to the prestigious Fall Classic Championship in
November.
The championship was secured when shortstop Tom
Donahue, of Aston, Pa., raced down a looping pop-up in the
bottom of the ninth of the championship game against a tough
Southside Chicago squad. The catch saved two runs and was
the final out to preserve the 3-2 win. Marlton native and
Balltown founder, Doug Kepple was the beneficiary of the catch
as he overcame 2 first-inning runs to earn a complete-game win.
Vineland's Angel Rivera was named Balltown's MVP for
the tournament. He finished with a team-leading nine hits
and nine RBI.

Defense Fails 35+ Balltown Bluejays in quest for Vegas crown.
Las Vegas,
March 7, 2011 --
Cherry Hill native Wade Hulmes was unable to repeat his
championship efforts in the Las Vegas Regional "Kick-Off
Classic."
This year Manager Hulmes assembled a group but
was hindered by the absence of some key players from last year.
Hulmes filled the holes remarkably and ended the weekend
endurance test (5 games in two days) with a 3-2 record and a top
eight finish.
The deciding game was played against the Las
Vegas Senators, a team that was rested and in mid-season form.
The Senators benefitted from numerous Bluejay miscues to score
10 unearned runs. One could blame the miscues on the fact
that it was the third game of the day for the weary Jays.
The Senators were one game fresher. Benefitting
from an earned First-round bye.
While the Bluejays were battling a scrappy Denver Orioles team
the Senators were able to go home, visit with their families and
rest.
That might explain one of the reasons the Jays
struggled in the field.

Pezzato girls look
to get Shawnee Softball
to Next Level
The Shawnee girls softball team had a lot to cheer
about last year. In a year of many more highs than lows the
season ended with a 4-3 loss to Eastern in the South Jersey Group 4
Championship, That loss left a bitter taste that only made the
girls of Shawnee hungrier.
So who will Shawnee turn to to help lead the way to a
possible championship feast. That answer will most likely be
two sisters that pack a lot of punch in compact frames.
Michelle and Jackie Pezzato
